    Plot summary and other info

"Ten years ago, Faye and Lydia each opened their own bakeries in Emeryville, Ohio, after a personal and professional fall-out during a local Pumpkin Pie contest. Now their children, and co-workers, Casey and Sam, are set to carry on the rivalry as they go head-to-head in the same contest. There's only problem for these two people who are supposed to hate each other, they start to fall in love."

Released in 2016 as part of Hallmark Channel's Fall Harvest programming, "Pumpkin Pie Wars" was filmed around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and stars Julie Gonzalo and Eric Aragon.

    Warning, spoilers ahead!

    My thoughts

Lifelong best friends Lydia Harper and Faye McArthy have a huge falling out during their small town pumpkin pie contest when Lydia decides to open a bakery on her own. In an act of defiance, Faye decides to open her own bakery just down the street.

Fast forward 10 years and both ladies still have their bakeries, and adult children working with them.

Julie Gonzalo stars as Casey McArthy, a Wharton School of Business graduate who has no baking ability at all, but has taken over running the books for her mother's struggling bakery.

Sam Harper, played by Eric Aragon, is a chef who trained at the Cordon Bleu and is trying to convince his mother Lydia to expand their bakery into a restaurant.

Faye breaks a bone in her foot and it's up to baking inept Casey to run the bakery and enter the yearly pumpkin pie contest.

When Lydia finds this out, she decides Sam should enter the pumpkin pie contest in her place, and take over the rivalry because it will be good publicity.

It's comical watching Casey try to bake and there's a cute scene with a kitchen fire and firefighters showing up.

The banter between Sam and Casey is both enjoyable and believable. I loved the slow progression of rivals, to friends, to love interests. Their chemistry is great and their interactions genuine!

Super cute watching them try to hide their friendship and budding love from their mothers. It was also funny when they find out their fathers have been sneaking around the past 10 years to go golfing together every week!

I enjoyed the ending where both mothers finally put their feud aside and join forces to win the contest against Betty, a former family friend who stole a pumpkin pie recipe.

The plot, dialogue, and delivery were all spot on. The only criticism I have is the number of times Casey talks about how she graduated top of her class from Wharton. It was really annoying and unnecessary. We get it, you're smart.

Watching a movie about baking always makes me want a sweet treat and these Pumpkin Blondies and Mini Pumpkin Cheesecakes are both perfect options to enjoy while watching "Pumpkin Pie Wars"!

    Final rating

"Pumpkin Pie Wars" is a cute spin on the Romeo and Juliet story. It's a funny, enjoyable film with great chemistry, dialogue, and all the fall things you could want. I would happily watch this movie over and over again!

    On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 4.5

If you're on the hunt for more fall movies, don't miss "October Kiss" or "Autumn Dreams"!
