Where was "Winter Castle" filmed?
One of the big draws of this movie, for me at least, was the ice hotel that was featured!
The Hotel de Glace is located just north of Quebec City in Quebec, Canada.
The hotel is rebuilt every year from 40,000 tons of snow and is open from January through March for guests!
Warning, spoilers ahead!
My thoughts
Emilie Ullerup, who plays maid of honor Jenny, shows genuine awe and excitement over the ice hotel without being annoying or childish.
She and Kevin McGarry, who plays best man Craig, have great chemistry together and their interactions and flirtations are cute and believable.
Jenny is the maid of honor in her sister Meg's destination wedding at an ice hotel. While Jenny is excited about the hotel, Meg is excited at the prospect of setting Jenny up with the best man Craig, who is a widowed single father.
Things get complicated when Craig shows up with a fur clad plus one to the wedding. Lana is hoping her friendship with Craig will turn romantic, meanwhile Craig looks like a deer in headlights whenever he's in her presence.
I actually feel a bit bad for Lana, who has been taking care of Craig and his daughter for years in the hopes of receiving a morsel of affection from him.
From the start it's clear that Craig has no romantic interest in Lana, who spends the majority of the film complaining of the cold (Hello? You're in an ice hotel!!) and not participating in any of the winter activities the wedding party are doing.
Compared to Lana, Jenny is a breath of fresh air. She's positive, upbeat, willing to try anything once, and immediately bonds with Craig's adorable daughter.
The storyline is pretty typical for a Hallmark movie, but the two lead actors and of course the scenery really make this film enjoyable.
What was that?
The mom they cast in this movie looks like she's younger than her 30-something daughters. I found it to be pretty distracting anytime she was on the screen.
Final rating
Even though the storyline was nothing special, I enjoy pretty much everything with Emilie Ullerup and Kevin McGarry, and this was no exception. I wouldn't mind watching this again.
On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 3.5
