A stressed out journalist goes on a relaxing vacation only to land herself a story and man that could change her life!

    Plot and other info!

"Jade, a news producer heads to the Caribbean for relaxation, only to fall victim to a rental scam. Serendipitously, she befriends the real owner, Ford, and discovers fun and romance."

Released in 2022 as part of Hallmark Channels, Summer Nights programming. "Caribbean Summer" was filmed in Placencia, Belize and stars Heather Hemmens and Ser'Darius Blain.

    My thoughts

Friends, I have a lot of thoughts about Caribbean Summer and I wish I could say they were all positive.

Let's start off with the good, first!

The two leads, Heather Hemmens and Ser'Darius Blain, are both gorgeous and have amazing chemistry together!

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and I'm ready to hop on a plane to Belize right now!

I loved all of Jade's (played by Hemmens) outfits, particularly her green blazer from the opening scene. She also had a pair or braided sandals that I've been eyeing from Target!

    Ok, on to the bad!

Less than 60 seconds into the movie and I found myself annoyed with Jade using FaceTime on a crowded elevator. I find it to be incredibly rude and it's one of my biggest pet peeves. I realize this isn't the case for everyone, but for me it set the tone for the film.

As a woman who has traveled abroad alone several times, I had a really hard time with the fact that Jade went to bed for the night without pulling down the blinds or closing all the windows!

The other big problem I had was with Jade very quickly believing Ford's (played by Blain) explanation about why he's in the house. She doesn't even check his ID or call the police to confirm.

The plot itself was kind of a bait-and-switch. It begins with Jade trying to solve who scammed her, then shifts to her trying to find out Ford's "true" identity. I found the revelation of who Ford really is to be pretty underwhelming and there's never closure on who scammed her with the house rental!

    Most memorable line!

"Sometimes you just have to face the things you don't want to."

    Final rating

I don't know if I was just in a funk while watching this movie, but I just couldn't get into it. The scenery and chemistry between the actors was the highlight for me, but I won't be watching "Caribbean Summer" again.

    On a scale of 1 to 5 I give it a 1.5

I did not like this movie at all. First, as someone wrote above, how could a smart woman stay in the same house with a complete stranger?? DUH!! Second, what happened to her trying to find the person who scammed her?? DUH!! Third, the other sub-plot, about Hughes & his father, was a total waste. Finally, ENOUGH WITH THE PHONE - put it down already!! You're supposed to be on vacation. DUH once again!!

My personal opinion is that the rating you gave was kind of generous. I'd have rated it lower, as a 1 on a scale of 1 to 5. The scenery of the movie was spectacular, I love the island vibes, but unfortunately, the setting alone does not make a movie good. The plot however was not structured from point A to B, meaning there were a lot of mix-ups, from some storylines not being fulfilled to others just dragging out long. The actors however were spectacular, but something felt "off" with the script. A movie is supposed to feel like real life, like whatever is going on in the movie, it feels real, however, based on the lines, it felt everything but realistic. It was like I was watching a school play instead of a movie.
