My thoughts
This movie is most definitely a drama, so if you're expecting Lacey Chabert to be her typical bubbly self, you won't find that here.
I found the story to be both sad and heartwarming. Five strangers are anonymously gifted stays at an inn for Christmas and for varying reasons, they all accept.
Lacey Chabert's character Sarah is grieving the recent death of her mother. The other four strangers are also carrying around their own sadness in terms of divorce or loss.
Ben, the owner of the inn helps Sarah try to unravel the mystery surrounding who brought all these strangers together and why.
The pacing of the story is slow, but I think it really works. The movie has a gentle sweetness and gave me all the feels!
The supporting cast is wonderful with characters you can relate to and root for.
By Hallmark standards, the movie was interesting and complex. It had me tearing up a few times.
The love story between Sarah and Ben is understated, tender, and works well with the mystery they're trying to solve.
He's patient and understanding during the few times she cries over her mother while she helps him realize the importance of asking for help and taking time for himself.
I thought the resolution of the mystery was moving and well done.
The film is on the heavier side and downright sad at times, just something to keep in mind before deciding to watch.
Most memorable line
"Fate has a way of putting the right people in our path right when we need them."
My final rating
Deeply moving with wonderful writing and acting. This is a heartwarming movie that I'll enjoy watching every Christmas.
On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 5
