My thoughts
The highlight of "Roadhouse Romance" is most definitely the incredible singing of Lauren Alaina, who plays military veteran Callie. She has a beautiful voice and unfortunately it wasn't showcased near enough.
Lauren Alaina is a professional country singer and the fact that the plot of this film is about a lost BBQ sauce recipe feels like a missed opportunity, especially since her acting isn't all that great.
She basically smiled her way through the majority of the movie and the delivery of some her lines was downright painful.
Tyler Hynes plays tv director Luke who gets in a fender bender with Callie and ends up staying in a spare room above her family's restaurant until his car is fixed.
They form a quick bond and he becomes invested in helping Callie save her family restaurant.
Their banter at the beginning of the film was funny and I loved when she left him on the side of the road and made him walk to town.
While I enjoyed their interactions throughout the film, it didn't feel romantic to me. More like good friends.
Overall I liked the character of Luke, until the very end. He agrees to direct his girlfriend in a movie that he thinks will be terrible as long as she posts about Callie's family restaurant on her Instagram page. The girlfriend keeps up her end of the bargain, Luke does not. Not cool!
We also don't really get any closure. I assume he broke up with his girlfriend, but how will he and Callie make it work? She helps at her family restaurant in Tennessee and is about to start a job at the VA Hospital while he's a Hollywood producer/director.
Memorable quotes from grandpa
"Trouble is transportation. A bad thing can take you to a good place."
"Success can be your servant or your master."
"Sometimes you got to risk it to get the biscuit."
Recipe for the movie!
The storyline of "Roadhouse Romance" is this missing BBQ sauce recipe that will help save the restaurant.
If all the talk of BBQ sauce makes you want some slathered on ribs or chicken, then I highly suggest you try this better than store bought Homemade BBQ Sauce!
Final rating
Aside from the beautiful singing, I just couldn't get into this Hallmark movie. I found the acting, especially from newcomer Lauren Alaina to be lacking and the storyline to be rather mundane.
On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 2
