My thoughts
I am a huge Bethany Joy Lenz fan and I loved Brett Dalton in the Hallmark movie "Once Upon A Christmas Miracle", so I had high hopes for this film...and it didn't disappoint!
I found "Just My Type" to be fun and flirty with a likeable script and great chemistry between the leads.
Throughout most of the film I found myself smiling and giggling. I loved the banter between Vanessa and Amber when they're debating the difference between spying and investigating!
Vanessa's character arc takes her from embarrassingly fangirling over Martin, her favorite author, to understanding the man behind the writing and in turn, understanding herself and her goals more clearly.
Martin's character arc takes him from distrusting author to slowly opening up to Vanessa once he realizes just how genuine she is.
I loved the slower pace of the film and felt like we as the audience really got to know these two characters and what makes them tick.
One of my favorite parts of the movie was actually a line that could easily be missed if you're not paying close attention.
During the scene where Vanessa and Martin are mending a neighbors fence, Martin mentions that his father was a teacher and his mother was a military pilot.
Such a small thing but I loved and appreciated the subtle nod to breaking gender stereotypes in careers.
I also really enjoyed that there was no forced misunderstanding that separated them towards the end of the movie. Vanessa's interview with Martin was over, they both revealed they liked each other but long distance was difficult so, it was time to move on. How very adult of them!
Spoiler Alert; of course they do get together at the end and it's lovely!
What was that?!
Flowers. So many fake flowers. I mean, really, really, really obvious fake flowers everywhere. The overall scenery of the movie was beautiful, but I found the overabundance of fake flowers really distracting.
In the scene where they all go fishing, Vanessa uses binoculars to watch Martin and the lens caps are still on!
I also found it funny that the girls are staying at the Inn that Amber's parents own but we never see any other guests!
Most memorable line!
I actually have two!
"Go boldly in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagine."
and
"You didn't ask for my two cents, I'm going to give it to you anyway. The last thing you want to do is wake up and realize you didn't do what you were destined to."
Final rating!
I found the movie to be charming, with great writing, and wonderful chemistry between the main characters! This is one I could watch over and over again!
On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 4
