My thoughts
"Three Wise Men and a Baby" is so different than any other Christmas Hallmark movie out there right now, and it works!
Instead of the traditional cookie cutter romance plot that Hallmark typically serves, this one focuses on familial and brotherly love. The movie is light on romance and heavy on comedy, which I really enjoyed.
It's a twist on the 80's comedy "Three Men and a Baby" and Margaret Colin actually played Tom Selleck's girlfriend in the film, so it was fun seeing her in this adaptation.
Luke, Stephan, and Taylor are all 30-something brothers who for various reasons, are all still living at home with their mother.
The brothers are still grappling with their father abandoning them as children and it seems as though they never truly matured.
Luke appears to be the most well adjusted of the brothers although it's revealed that he pretty much took on the father figure role for his two younger siblings and stepped up to help his mother as much as possible. Because of this he's harboring some resentment.
Stephan is riddled with anxiety while Taylor is selfish and unlikeable (at first).
The chemistry between the three of them is amazing and you truly get the sense that you're watching siblings bicker. They all go through their own character arcs and show growth throughout the film.
The movie is funny. Like laugh out loud funny with great zingers and one liners from everyone but Taylor in particular.
Margaret Colin plays their mother who is exasperated at her sons constantly arguing. I enjoyed her scenes and wish we had a few more of them.
Even though the overall feel of the film is humorous, there is an undercurrent of sadness as you watch this family finally confront their traumas and come together in the hopes that the baby they're caring for doesn't feel the same abandonment that they felt as children.
For me the one great flaw of the movie was the contest scene towards the end which I found to be a bit cringey.
Most memorable line
It was really hard to choose a favorite line from the movie because there were so many funny ones, but the one I always laugh at is;
"You have a baby? How long was I asleep?"
This was said by Taylor to Luke when he first notices the baby.
Final rating
The cast and chemistry is incredible and I thought the movie was hysterical! I've already seen it several times and will happily continue to watch it again and again!
On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 5
