My thoughts
"Falling for Vermont" is a pretty average Hallmark movie with a predictable yet enjoyable storyline. It's also a complete rip off of A Christmas to Remember (which is one of my favorites).
Julie Gonzalo plays Angela, a bestselling novelist who wants to take a break from work to enjoy the fall season. On her drive to Vermont she has a car accident and ends up with amnesia.
She's cared for by small town doctor Jeff, played by Benjamin Ayers, who is a widower with two kids. He graciously offers her his guest house while she recuperates and the rest is typical Hallmark.
Jeff's parents are super welcoming to Angela and his kids warm up to her quickly. There's a fashion montage scene, along with an obligatory fall festival.
The movie flowed seamlessly and the actors, including the child actors all did a great job with a pretty basic story.
Benjamin Ayers is admittedly one of my least favorite male leads, but I thought his interactions with the always wonderful Julie Gonzalo to be convincing and likeable.
I actually liked the relationship Angela forges with Jeff's daughter Emily the most! They have some sweet talks and bond over writing.
There are some pretty obvious plot holes; like the sheriff not looking for the car in the ditch, picking blueberries in October, and not one person in the town recognizing her even though they're all reading her books!
You also definitely need to overlook the sad little orange maple trees, and fake leaves that they placed in the background of most scenes to remind us it's fall.
I did however appreciate that the there was no silly misunderstanding or contrived drama towards the end like most Hallmark movies have. It was refreshing.
Final rating
Overall, this was a sweet and slow moving rom-com with enjoyable characters and a predictable plot.
On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 3.5
