My thoughts
This is one of my all-time favorite Hallmark Christmas movies! I think Mira Sorvino, who plays Jennifer Wade (aka Maggie) and Cameron Mathison, who plays John are absolutely perfect together.
In the beginning of the film we meet Jennifer/Maggie who is an overworked, perfectionist tv chef. While I wouldn't say she was likeable at first, she was definitely relatable as someone who sees the holiday season as work instead of magical.
Through her amnesia she rediscovers the magic of Christmas and it was really nice to see her character grow.
While we don't see much, if any growth from John, he's still an integral part of getting Jennifer/Maggie her memory back.
I probably shouldn't say this, but normally I find the kids in Hallmark movies to be really annoying! I'm happy to report that I actually liked the characters the kiddos played in this film and enjoyed the scenes they had with Jennifer/Maggie.
I really liked the scene where John and Maggie are searching for a sewing kit, and Maggie begins asking him questions about his late wife. It's so lovely to see her taking an interest in that part of his life and to see John open up about how important his relationship with his wife was.
Another scene I absolutely loved was John's former mother-in-law, Bunny, helping Maggie get dressed for the Christmas dance. She shared how much she likes Maggie as part of the family and I found it to be such a touching moment. In no way did Bunny feel like Maggie was trying to take the place of her deceased daughter, so important and I like that they included it.
What was that?!
In the beginning of the movie we meet John, a veterinarian who is making a house call and then doesn't charge anything for it! He says to the client, " No charge, it's Christmas!".
Later on he goes to another house call and is paid with an apple pie! How does this guy pay his mortgage?!
I get it, they're trying to establish what a nice guy he is, but the poor man has a family to care for too. Well wishes and apple pies don't keep the lights on!
Final rating
I love this movie from beginning to end! It's heartwarming, fun, and I'm happy every time I see it!
On a scale of 1 to 5 I give it a 4.5
